Hospitality industry encompasses a wide range of professional figures requiring increasing level of competence and skill. This study identifies the competencies required by specific job groups in the hospitality industry from the perspective of hotel managers. Data were collected from the semi-structured in-depth interviews with human resource managers in star-rated hotels in Hanoi. Research results show that Professional qualifications; Skill; Character; Readiness are the necessary competencies for 4 groups of job positions in the hotel including: (i) Accommodation department; (ii) Front office department; (iii) Culinary Department; (iv) Sales and marketing department.
